The Illawarra Hawks will welcome free-agent power forward Mason Peatling to the club for the NBL24 season.
Peatling joins the Hawks after 87 games and three seasons with Melbourne United, including the 2020-21 season, where he was a valuable contributor to the club's championship run.
Be it as a starter or off the bench, Peatling has carved a reputation as an enforcer who can impact the game at both ends of the floor.
The 25-year-old power forward recently debuted for the Boomers alongside new teammate Dan Grida in February's FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Peatling entered free agency as one of the hottest signatures in the league, and Hawks GM of Basketball Mat Campbell spoke of his delight in adding the Melbourne native to the roster for the next two seasons.
"The power forward position is crucial in this league, and Mason was one of the first names we identified when free agency began," said Campbell.
"Mason's a competitor and a winner, and his best basketball is ahead of him. His skill set meets our roster's needs, and we are excited to add him to our young and developing front line."
For Peatling, the opportunity to be a regular contributor was a driving factor in his free agency process.
“I am excited to join a proud and iconic organisation in the Hawks,” said Peatling.
“I see great potential in the team we are building, and I can’t wait to be a big part of our rise back up the ladder in NBL24”.
Peatling will complete his NBL1 season with the Knox Raiders before joining Jacob Jackomas’ squad for pre-season in Wollongong in August.
