Overview

Hawks ID: 234

Mason Peatling has won two NBL championships as a role player who kept getting trusted with a bigger role. Twice, that trust paid off.

Building Blocks

Peatling grew up on the outskirts of Melbourne, went through the Dandenong Rangers system, and spent four years at Eastern Washington University, where he was named Big Sky Player of the Year and a First-Team Academic All-American in 2020.

Learning to Win

Peatling turned professional as a development player at Melbourne United, and midway through his first season, injuries opened a door: he became the first development player in NBL history to start a Grand Final series game. He won the title with United in 2021, added an NBL1 South championship with the Knox Raiders in 2023, and arrived at Illawarra later that year with a winning résumé already in hand.

Second Ring, First Real Chance

In 2024/25 Peatling broke through as the starting power forward on a championship team, contributing 4.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in around 13 minutes a night. In NBL26 he upped his output, averaging 6.9 points on 52 percent shooting to go with 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists, and showed off an improving outside shot.

Peatling suited up for Illawarra in the 2026 NBL1 season after welcoming his first baby early in the off-season with wife Laura.
