The Hawks are excited to announce the signing of talented young tyro - Lachlan Dent - on a one-year development deal.
The lllawarra-born guard is used to dishing out his fair share of opportunities to teammates, but had never been on the receiving end of something like this.
“My agent just kind of called me and said, ‘we've got some good news for ya’. I just yelled some expletives out. I was just so happy,” Dent said.
The young larrikin honest as ever when asked why he thinks he was rewarded with a fresh new deal.
“I kinda just kept showing up,” he laughed.
“I’ve been hopeful, very hopeful. It’s been my dream to play pro ball for a long time, so getting that opportunity to do that now is kind of what made me keep putting in the hours.”
And I tried to get better. I liked the idea of getting better with the aim of hopefully making a full roster eventually.”
The humble guard overjoyed when he got the news - and keen to reminisce on where it all began.
“When I was 3, I helped dad with a school basketball team, hand out waters and shot around with them. Mates from school played and someone hurt himself, so I ended up filling in for a team at Bulli PCYC. And then I played rep all the way through the grades,” he said.
‘The Woonona Wonder’ not a fresh face for the Hawks faithful, after donning the uniform twice last season as an injury replacement against the Bullets and the Kings.
But with the new season fast approaching, Dent is hungrier than ever - and determined to garner more game time with the Hawks.
“It gives me a bit more confidence now, knowing that I can do it. I can’t wait for the season to begin," he said.
