Amarco Doyle

Amarco Doyle hasn't played a single NBL minute yet, and Hawks fans already have reason to be excited about the latest development player.

He's 21, he's from Queensland, and he's spent the last few years proving himself in some of the toughest development environments basketball has to offer, American college gyms, NBL1 courts, and under the eye of a coach who already knows exactly what he's capable of.

The Long Way From The Southport School

Doyle's path to Wollongong started at The Southport School, where he represented Queensland at the Australian Junior Championships and took home silver at the 2024 Under-20 Nationals. From there he headed to the United States to test himself against the collegiate system, landing at the College of Southern Idaho, where as a sophomore he averaged 14.8 points a game and shot an outstanding 50 percent from three, earning Region 18 All-Star 5 honours for 2024-25. That form was good enough to earn him a commitment to New Mexico State for the 2025-26 campaign.

The Coach Who Already Knew

Back home, Doyle built an NBL1 résumé that told the same story. He played a key role in the 2024 NBL1 North Championship win and was named Under-23 Youth Player of the Year that same season, before a stint with the Mt Gambier Pioneers in NBL1 South in 2025. Through it all, one coach kept a front-row seat. Hawks Assistant Coach Joel Khalu has worked with Doyle for years, both in NBL1 and with the Queensland Under-20 program, and didn't hold back when Doyle signed. "He's exactly the type of player Hawks fans will love. He's hardworking, blue-collar, tough, and an ultra-competitive person who impacts winning in so many ways," Khalu said. "He's a genuine three-level scorer who can create his own shot, knock down the three, and put pressure on the rim."

Back Home and on Fire

This year Doyle returned to Queensland for the 2026 NBL1 North season, signing with the Cairns Marlins under Khalu, lining up alongside fellow Hawks-aligned talents Luca Yates and Kobe McDowell-White. It's been a productive homecoming. Through the season so far he's averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.7 blocks a game, knocking down 2.5 threes a night. Numbers that don't just point to a scorer, they point to a genuine three-level threat capable of putting pressure on a defence in more than one way.

The Road Ahead

Doyle joins the Hawks on a 2+1 deal, beginning as a development player before a shot at the main roster, the latest name added to a First Nations pathway that keeps giving young Australians from every corner of the country a place to develop and a stage to prove themselves. Wollongong hasn't seen him play a game yet. Given who's already vouching for him, that won't be true for long.
