Illawarra Hawks Co-Owner Michael Proctor has sadly passed away, aged...
The NBL agreed in June last year to award the licence for the Illawarra Hawks to a syndicate of local and overseas investors to lead the foundation club into the future.
The syndicate includes Australian entrepreneur and former co-owner of the Sydney Kings, Dorry Kordahi and prominent former NBA executive Bryan Colangelo.
"Mike will be sorely missed. He was a great man who achieved one of his dreams in owning a professional basketball team. I can honestly say the team helped him live over the last year. I'm devastated to lose him both personally and professionally and sorry he never got the chance to come down to Australia to see the Hawks play. We will play this season with him in our thoughts and will endeavour to win the NBL championship in honour of Mike," QUOTE FROM SOMEONE.
Michael Proctor was an American businessman, restaurateur and real estate developer based in St. Louis, Missouri. Michael’s primary business is owning and operating multiple food service operations and he has also developed successful hotels in thriving markets.
In addition to his business ventures, Michael has created significant relationships in basketball across North America, from the grassroots level all the way to the NBA. As a former NCAA player himself, Mike’s involvement with and knowledge of the top ranked AAU Programs and Major Division I college programs throughout the United States, along with his connections with numerous coaches and personnel at the high school, college and pro levels brings a unique and strategic perspective on assessing and supporting the talent acquisition process.
Michael's son, Dominic, will be taking over the business investment on behalf of his father and family.
The Illawarra Hawks basketball club extends its deepest sympathies to Michael’s family and friends at this very sad time.
Players will wear black armbands during the first match of the 2021-22 NBL season in recognition of Proctor's contribution to the club.
