The Hawks welcome import guard Peyton Siva to the club for the remainder of the Hungry Jack's NBL23 season.
The former New Zealand Breaker will replace the injured Justin Robinson and bring his experienced guard play to the young and exciting Hawks roster.
The 31-year-old averaged 11.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game with the Breakers in NBL22 and last played for Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague.
Siva will join the Hawks after an extensive search that included the league's leading competitions.
Hawks GM of Basketball Mat Campbell is excited by the arrival of the international guard.
"We identified Peyton as a player who can come in and impact the squad right away".
"His familiarity with the league and the style of play was attractive to us, and we look forward to him bringing his experience and leadership to the program."
"Our squad has been competitive in the early stages of the season. One could argue that better decision-making in key moments and another elite guard to get the ball in the right player's hands down the stretch could make our win-loss record look very different".
Siva will add some much-needed depth to a Hawks backcourt that has punched well above its weight since losing Robinson on opening night.
Head Coach Jacob Jackomas hopes Siva can help steer the ship and add depth to his ball-handling brigade.
"Lachie Dent has been a shining light for us in the early going and adding Peyton to the squad solidifies our backcourt rotation which we have asked a lot of in the last few weeks."
"Peyton's a high-level competitor whose elite decision-making will open up opportunities for the rest of the squad, and we can't wait to have him in Hawks colours next week".
Siva will arrive in Wollongong mid-next week, hoping to be available for the Hawks' away match against the Bullets in Brisbane on Thursday evening.
Hawks' fans will get their first chance to see Peyton Siva in action at home when we clash with Melbourne United at 5.30 pm on Saturday, October 29th.
