Local junior Harry Morris has signed with the Illawarra Hawks for his second season as a development player.
At only 20 years of age, Morris’ talent became evident early on with the youngster being called to represent at state and international levels during his teen years.
Morris was selected for Basketball NSW U16 Country Team, U18 Country Team, and U20 Country Team (2017-2021), which saw him travelling to compete in the Australian National Junior Championships.
In 2019 Morris also travelled to the United States with Team Oz Basketball, where he gained experience playing with and against other high calibre young players.
In 2022 Morris had an impressive season with NBL1 East Hawks, during which he averaged 16.8 points and 6 boards in his roughly 31 minutes on the court, leading to the young talent securing his first DP contract with the Illawarra Hawks for NBL23.
The 6’6 forward, known for his long-range shots, hit the court four times during his first season as a professional, scoring his first NBL points with a three-pointer during the Hawks Round 16 home game against the Brisbane Bullets.
Growing up playing basketball in the Illawarra it was only natural for Morris’ aspirations to include being a part of the Hawks program, so his progress is a great example of the pathway available to other locals in his position.
Catch Morris this NBL off-season playing for NBL1 East Illawarra Hawks again, where he hasn’t been shy about showing what he brings to the court.
In his first game of the NBL1 season Morris delivered an impressive 19 point, 9 rebound, 2 assist and 1 block performance that contributed to his team’s hard-fought 95-86 win against the Maitland Mustangs.
Morris’ current stats see him averaging 13 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.25 assists, a hint of the brand of basketball Morris will bring to the Illawarra in the foreseeable future.
