The Illawarra Hawks have bolstered their NBL26 roster with the signing of American guard Quentin Level "Q.J." Peterson Junior, adding scoring power, leadership, and elite experience to their backcourt.
A top scorer and playmaker, Peterson brings a wealth of international experience to Wollongong. A graduate of Virginia Military Institute, the 30-year-old has carved out an impressive professional career across Europe and Asia, with standout stints in Turkey, China, Denmark, and France.
Most recently, Peterson averaged over 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists per game with the New Taipei Kings in Taiwan’s P.League+, where he helped guide his team to the 2024 Finals.
At 6'0" (183 cm), Peterson is known for his explosive first step, three-point shooting, and relentless competitiveness. Attributes that will complement the Hawks’ fast-paced style under Head Coach Justin Tatum.
For Hawks General Manager of Basketball, Mat Campbell, the signing marks a major step in solidifying the team’s offensive lineup.
“Q.J. is a proven scorer and competitor who can create opportunities and lift the energy of those around him,” said Campbell. “He’s played at a high level all over the world, and his experience and leadership will be invaluable for our younger players. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Illawarra and can’t wait for fans to see what he brings to the floor.”
Peterson, who will make his first appearance in Australia this season, is equally eager to don the Hawks jersey.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to play in the NBL. It’s a tough, respected league, and I’m ready to compete,” said Peterson. “The Hawks have a strong culture and passionate fans, and I’m looking forward to being part of that energy and helping this team win games.”
With official International clearance to play, the Hawks continue to strengthen their NBL26 campaign, blending veteran experience with rising Australian talent as they prepare for another exciting season at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
