The Hawks' on-court success, seeing them make back-to-back semi-final appearances, has led to increased support from the Illawarra region.
According to this month's True North Research statistics shared with the foundation club, the Illawarra community's respect, employment opportunities, trust, pride and bond with the Hawks have all increased over the past 12 months.
In particular, the fans' trust and pride in their club have increased materially since May 2021.
“We’re really proud of the key increases the club has made off the field, considering how challenging the past two seasons have been,” Hawks acting president Mat Campbell said.
“These show the franchise is well and truly on the right track and that we are making a big impact on people within the Illawarra community.
“As excitement continues to build ahead of NBL23, now is the time to get involved with our great club.”
The in-depth report, which compares the Hawks against the nine other NBL clubs and other national elite sporting competitions, also ranked Illawarra highly in a number of attribute performance categories among its supporters.
Jacob Jackomas' team rank second in the NBL in 'positive team culture' with close to 80 per cent of fans agreeing that the Hawks reflect that.
The Wollongong-based club also ranks third in 'giving back to community', fourth in both demonstrating sportsmanship and resiliency, fourth in 'affordable experience' and 'financially secure' management - demonstrating the huge strides the Hawks have made recently.
The final statistic that emphasises this growth is the Hawks' sponsorship awareness over time.
Aided awareness of sponsors to those familiar with the team, as well as among fans, has increased across the board, including companies such as Pepper Money, City Motors Group, Peoplecare TLE, and i-induct.
