The Illawarra Hawks NBL27 Home and Away uniforms are here, and teal is back for the first time since 2003. It runs through the neck and armhole trim on both jerseys, and down the full side panels of the home black kit. The away white kit sticks with our traditional red side panels. With the club inching towards its 50th year, this is a look pulled out of our own history rather than borrowed from anyone else's.

Where the teal came from

Teal belonged to the 90s. Half the sporting world was wearing it, and we were happy to be part of that. The difference was that ours meant something on top of the trend.

It came from the badge. The logo used from 1998 to 2012 had the hawk perched on a wave, and teal was the ocean underneath it. That is about as Illawarra as a design decision gets.

Teal stayed a staple accent colour on Hawks uniforms until 2003. For those seasons it was simply what a Hawks jersey looked like.

It has come back three times since. The NBL20 Indigenous jersey had hints of teal. The NBL21 Heritage jersey, teal side panels and the old Wollongong Hawks wave badge on the chest. Then the NBL25 pinstripe jersey, released as a midseason heritage kit and meant to be worn once. Players wanted it. Hawkheads wanted it. It kept coming back out, all the way to Game One of the Final series at home.

You do not get a clearer answer than that.

Teal and championships

Teal ran as a prominent side panel stripe through the 2001 Championship jersey. For a lot of Hawkheads, that is the jersey.

Bringing the colour back is not nostalgia for its own sake. It draws a line between the players who pull this on in NBL27 and the Champions who wore it in 2001 and NBL25.

Hawks at home, Illawarra on the road

The home jersey is black, teal down the side panels, Hawks across the chest. The away jersey is white, red down the side panels, Illawarra across the chest.

That red is on purpose. White and red is the traditional Hawks second uniform, and we have kept it.

Two jerseys, two jobs. One is for the room that already belongs to us. The other is for every room that does not.

Inside WIN Entertainment Centre we are the Hawks, and everyone in the building already knows it. On the road we carry the name of the region instead. Illawarra written across the chest in someone else's arena says something plainly. This is where we are from. These are the people we play for.

A direct line back to 1998

The colour and the arm piping pay near direct homage to the 1998 to 2000 uniform. Red and teal trim at the neck and armholes. Modern fabric, modern fit, similar silhouette in the places that count.

If you had that jersey, you will recognise parts of this one before you read a word about it.

Both uniforms drop 9 September 2026

Get in early. This one will not sit on the shelf.
