The Illawarra Hawks are thrilled to confirm that Co-Captain Tyler Harvey has been granted permanent residency in Australia, with the outcome confirmed late this afternoon. The club continues to support Tyler and his family as they work through the process of becoming Australian citizens.
Harvey’s permanent residency places him on track to be eligible to play as a local player in the NBL from the 2026–27 season, subject to league confirmation.
Since arriving in the Illawarra ahead of the 2020–21 season, Harvey has become one of the most influential figures in club history. Harvey’s impact has extended far beyond the stat sheet, embodying the values, resilience and connection to community that define the Illawarra Hawks.
A two-time All-NBL First Team selection (2021 and 2025), the sharpshooting guard has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable closers, delivering countless clutch performances in Hawks colours. During the 2024–25 championship campaign, he shot a career-high 38.6 per cent from three-point range, while averaging 17.3 points, 2.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game across his NBL career.
This season, Harvey is averaging 16.5 points, 3.6 assists and three rebounds per game, continuing to lead by example as Co-Captain.
The Illawarra Hawks congratulate Tyler and his family on this significant milestone and look forward to continuing the journey together in the years ahead.
See Tyler in action tomorrow night, Feb 5, as the Hawks take on the Adelaide 36ers in a must win battle - Tip off 7:30 pm at WIN Entertainment Centre.
