The Illawarra Hawks are excited to announce AJ Ogilvy will once again be their captain in season NBL22, as they fly towards another NBL championship.
"Culture is critical to everything we are doing on and off the court and a big part of this is leadership and we couldn't be more pleased to announce AJ as Captain of the Hawks", said Hawks President and Co-Owner, Dorry Kordahi.
Ogilvy, who skippered Illawarra to a semi-final appearance in NBL21, can’t wait to lead the Hawks once again into battle.
"I'm really excited to once against captain the Illawarra Hawks in NBL22," Ogilvy said.
“It was really special to be given the honour last year for the first time and it's a privilege to do it again - it's something that means a lot to me especially when you look at the names of who captain this proud club before me.
"The Illawarra is such a unique area to represent, and I speak for all the team when I say we thoroughly enjoy representing our community each time we step on the court.
With numerous players returning from last year's core, Ogilvy is confident his team have what it takes to add a second championship banner to the foundation club's collection.
"All of us boys returning from last year have learnt a lot of what it takes to succeed, especially in a Brian Goorjian-coached system,” said Ogilvy, who has played 169 games for the club since joining in 2015.
"I spent a lot of time last season saying how much belief I had in our team and honestly, things have gone to another level this year.
"With the group we've retained and the pieces we've added, we're going to be a really tough team to beat this season, especially once we get all the guys firing.
"Not to mention having Goorj's influence and him passing on all that knowledge and confidence from the bronze medal in Tokyo, it's shaping up as a special season for the club and we can't wait to get started.”
