Hawks and Kings to square off after another schedule change

The Illawarra Hawks' opponent for Sunday has changed for the second time within two days after the NBL announced they'll now be playing arch-rivals the Sydney Kings.
After starting the week thinking they were playing reigning champions Melbourne United, the NBL changed the schedule, due to their league health and safety protocols, on Thursday so that the Hawks would now be playing Adelaide.
Just over 24 hours after that amendment, the NBL was forced to alter Illawarra's opposition at the WIN Entertainment Centre again because of **** positive COVID-19 cases in the 36ers’ camp.
To ensure the season pushes ahead, the NBL acted swiftly and pitted the NSW rivals against one another, after the Kings' proposed match with the Taipans at Cairns was also postponed because of cases within the hosts' squad.
Therefore, January 9 will play host to another instalment of the hotly contested Freeway Series and game two of the NBL22 Adrian Hurley Cup.
Despite the hiccups, Hawks co-owner and president Dorry Kordahi encouraged all HawkHeads to come out and support their team - who have had to overcome plenty of challenges during their 21-day COVID-enforced hiatus.
“I know we have one of the most passionate fan bases in the country, so I’m calling all HawkHeads to come out and support our team now more than ever,” Kordahi said.
“The past few weeks have been extremely challenging for everyone but it’s now time for our loyal fans from around the Illawarra region to show exactly what the Steel City is made of.
“Our game against the Breakers was extremely exciting, proving why we are the hottest entertainment ticket in town.
“I’m confident after what happened in game one of the Freeway Series, this game will have plenty of fireworks and will be one that no one will want to miss.”
As Kordahi alludes to, his Hawks won the thrilling round two showdown against the Kings at Qudos Bank Arena 92-84.
Tickets for the NSW derby are available via Ticketmaster.
