Another chapter in the storied rivalry between the Hawks and Kings will play out in Wollongong, where the Hawks will now host the first two matchups between the teams in NBL24.
The Hawks return home to recapture that winning feeling, with our last result at the Sandpit a buzzer-beating win, courtesy of Tyler Harvey.
The Hawks carried the momentum of a home win into John Cain Arena and took it right up to the title favourites Melbourne United on their home floor.
Having led for 10 points in the first half, it was a Chris Goulding masterclass that eventually saw United pull away with the win.
Justin Robinson delivered his best performance for the season with 20 points and nine assists, while Gary Clark continued his stellar form with 24 points.
The Round 1 opener in Wollongong saw the Kings prevail by 15 points, and a win tonight would see them take an unassailable lead in the NBL24 Freeway Series.
It’s high stakes for the Hawks, with a win vital to staying connected to a group of 4-5 teams fighting it out in the play-in bubble as the competition enters the second third of the NBL24 season.
Opposition Watch
The Kings enter tonight’s game 3rd on the championship standings with a four-win and three-loss record.
First-year coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah has led the new-look Kings through an interrupted start to the season, with import forward DJ Hogg only making his first appearance for the Kings in last week’s road loss to the Taipans.
Former league MVP Jaylen Adams has been at his devastating best, while Kouat Noi, Jaylin Galloway and Jordan Hunter have all had impressive starts to the season in a supporting role.
Few games mean more to both sides and fan bases, and tonight’s game has the potential to be one for ages, with seasonal standings and statewide bragging rights on the line.
