The Hawks will feature in Christmas Day hoops for the first time as the NBL has announced the club will face the Sydney Kings at Qudos Bank Arena.
The 7:30pm tip-off will be the perfect end to your Christmas festivities as the Freeway Series takes on extra meaning in NBL24.
The rivalry between the two sides needs little fuel. However, the chance to cap the day with a victory over the Kings will be the perfect stocking stuffer for Hawk Nation.
The season of giving will underpin the club’s activity in the lead-up to the historic fixture, with the Hawks committed to including a strong community theme across the month of December.
“Freeway Series matchups are always a highlight of our club’s calendar, and to feature on one of the biggest stages on Christmas Day is an opportunity that the club is looking forward to embracing,” said Hawks CEO Stu Taggart.
“Christmas Day and the holiday season is an opportunity for families and friends of our region to come together, and we are now looking forward to celebrating this new tradition with meaningful initiatives that reflect our Club’s values of inclusivity and community.”
“We encourage our members, fans, and partners to join us in Sydney on December 25th and be a part of history in what could also be the decider of the Freeway Series bragging rights for NBL24.”
The inaugural Christmas Day game was broadcast across ESPN, Kayo, and Channel 10 to a viewership of more than 300,000 fans nationwide; the Hawks involvement in the marquee matchday will showcase the club’s brand and our commercial partners to a new audience.
The NBL was Australia’s first professional sport to play on Christmas Day, and will now look to cement the fixture as a regular on the Australian sporting calendar.
The Hawks and Kings game will round out a day of holiday hoops with the Tasmania JackJumpers hosting the South-East Melbourne Phoenix at My State Bank Arena at 5:30pm AEDT.
