The first week of NBL1 action in May again saw solid performances, including three double-doubles in four games.
Lachlan Olbrich and the West Adelaide Bearcats continued their red-hot form, taking their 6th win of the season against the Central District Lions, 110 to 99, on Saturday night.
Olbrich impressed once again with his third consecutive double-double of the season, taking the total tally to four on the season. His performance included three assists and a steal on 63% shooting efficiency.
The Hawks forward has established himself as a prime piece of the Bearcats team, averaging 20 points and ten rebounds on the season.
Olbrich and the Bearcats will take on the visiting Forestville Eagles on Saturday, May 13, at 8:15 pm ACST.
Tim Coenraad was back in Illawarra Hawks colours with another excellent performance on Saturday night, posting 24 points, and 12 rebounds, along with two assists, four steals and one block. It wasn’t to be for the Hawks, whoever, who went down to the Hills Hornets 87-88 in an absolute nail-biter.
The next few weeks will be crucial for the Illawarra Hawks, now with five wins and four losses through the first eight rounds of the NBL1 east competition. You can catch their next game against the Albury Wodonga Bandits on Saturday, May 13, at 7:00 pm AEDT.
The women’s team also went down on Saturday night 63-69 to the Hornets. Emilia Garcia Leon was a standout performer for the Hawks, posting a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. You can catch their next game against the Albury Wodonga Bandits on Saturday, May 13, at 5:00 pm AEDT.
Deng and the Ipswich force took the court in back-to-back games over the weekend. Saturday night’s game saw Ipswich take on the visiting North Gold Coast Seahawks, where Deng scored 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 92-80 win.
Sunday’s game saw the Force make the trip to Hibiscus Sports Stadium, taking on the Southwest Metro Pirates. Deng displayed another solid performance with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block, but it wasn’t to be as the Force went down 91-98. Deng and the Force will look to bounce back when they take on Rip City Basketball on Saturday, May 13, at 7:00 pm AEDT.
