Lachlan Olbrich is an Illawarra Hawk after signing with the club for the Hungry Jack’s NBL24 season.

Olbrich arrives in Wollongong on a three-year deal after a successful Freshman season at the University of California, Riverside.

Originally from Adelaide, the 6’10 Olbrich averaged 11.5 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes per game in his only season with the Highlanders.

Olbrich is no stranger to the Illawarra. His UC Riverside squad faced the Hawks in the most recent pre-season, where he left a lasting impression on the organisation after starring with 19 points and ten rebounds.

The club’s first signing of the NBL24 Free Agency period, Olbrich will join a young and dynamic front line led by co-captain and Boomer Sam Froling.

Hawks GM of Basketball Mat Campbell was thrilled to land the signature of the Aussie big man.

“Lachlan has been a player we have watched with a real interest in the last six months, and we are delighted to welcome him to the Hawks family," Campbell said.

“He has great size and length, and we love his aggressiveness. We were looking to add some front-court depth to the roster, and Lachlan’s signing is a great outcome for the NBL24 season and beyond.”

Olbrich received great interest around the league but saw the Hawks as the best option to launch his professional career.

“Once I decided to leave the collegiate system, I prioritised joining an organisation that would provide me with the best opportunity to develop my game. The Hawks were a standout throughout that process.” Olbrich said.

“Speaking with Jacob and understanding the journey the club is on with a young and exciting group, it was clear that the Hawks is the place for me to start my NBL career.”

“The chance to work with Sam [Froling] daily is something I am looking forward to, and I can’t wait to get to Wollongong and get to work.”

The Hawks NBL24 roster now sits at eight with Olbrich joining Tyler Harvey, Sam Froling, Justin Robinson, Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, Dan Grida, William ‘Davo’ Hickey, and development player Harry Morris.
