Kuany Kuany, Hawks Training Player, was announced as part of the South Sudan squad for the upcoming FIBA Afrobasket 2025 Qualifiers in November.
Kuany, who will be making his debut for South Sudan, expressed his excitement on the announcement “This is something every kid dreams of, and to be able to do it at my age is a blessing. I can’t wait to get out there, put on the South Sudan jersey and have my friends, family and teammates watching the game.”
Reflecting on his heritage, Kuany added “I was born in East Africa... So, it will be good to go back to the motherland, see Africa and experience it once again.”
Kuany will join fellow Hawks teammates Sam Froling, William Hickey, Lachlan Olbrich, and Hung-jung Lee, who have also been selected to represent their respective countries in upcoming FIBA tournaments.
Mat Campbell, General Manager of Basketball, commented, “This is a great honour for any player, especially someone as young as Kuany. He has shown great promise during his time with the Hawks, and this selection highlights his talent. He has the full support of the club, and we will be cheering him on from Australia.”
Kuany is set to take the court on November 22nd and again on the 23rd.
