The Hawks entered the matchup having won three of their past four games and fresh off back-to-back wins, but the JackJumpers set the tone early and raced out to a 20-point lead by the first change.
Jordan Crawford and Will Magnay were dominant in the early going, with Crawford heading to the main break with 18 points and Magnay controlling the glass at both ends of the floor.
After being stunned early, the Hawks began to claw their way back before half-time, with Sam Froling leading the way and registering one of the best poster dunks of the season to bring the Hawks home crowd to life.
Tasmania regrouped at the long break and continued their dominance on the boards in the second half. The JackJumpers pulled down 18 o-boards for 20-second chance points with Lee, Magnay and co relentless for the visitors.
While Crawford and Magnay starred, it was the all-round performance from the JackJumpers that made them so impressive.
Seven players scored nine points or more, and the shooting punch provided by Clint Steindl (15 points) and Sean Macdonald (11) was crucial. They combined to shoot 8-of-13 from behind the three-point line, and both were plus-22 when on the court.
For the Hawks, Froling battled hard all night and finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyler Harvey (12 points, five assists) continued his good form, and Gary Clark finished with 18 points.
The region showed out in their support of the new-look Hawks with a holiday crowd of 4,037, not enough to get the home side across the line.
The Hawks will regroup quickly ahead of a Christmas Day evening clash with Sydney, with the Freeway Series taking on extra meaning with both teams coming off tough losses.
