Illawarra Hawks head coach Jacob Jackomas and assistant coach Shaun Roger were joined by participants of the Hawks Intern Coaching Program to attend Basketball Australia's National Coaches Conference.
Over 170 coaches attended the conference, featuring an appearance from former Hawks head coach Brian Goorjian, sports leadership expert Elizabeth Masen, and indigenous leader Timmy Duggan.
Coach Jackomas was also featured heavily throughout the conference, delivering an on-court session on zone defence, and sharing his inaugural NBL season experience with the group.
Hawks assistant coach Shaun Roger spoke highly of the event, emphasising the invaluable information provided by those experienced in their field.
"Basketball Australia Coaches Conference provides a unique opportunity for both on and off-court development for coaches in attendance," Roger said.
"The two days presented a platform for tremendous growth with an array of high-level speakers. For me personally the themes around maximising your learning, understanding people and maximising their performance, and modern leadership through the lens of both an athlete & coach were of greatest value."
Hawks intern coach Decclan McLean spoke on these events' importance for aspiring young coaches.
"The conference has been excellent and will help drive growth in Australian basketball, especially in the space of upcoming juniors, making for a much more accessible pathway in Australian basketball," McLean said.
"To see a record number of coaches attend the event suggests the value it portrays for aspiring coaches around the country."
