The Illawarra Hawks are pleased to announce the signing of William Hickey and Harry Morris as development players for the 2022/23 Hungry Jack’s NBL season.
William ‘Davo’ Hickey is a product of the Sydney Comets basketball factory. Hickey has previous NBL experience, having held development player positions with the South East Melbourne Phoenix and Melbourne United.
Hickey joins the Hawks after a season with the Casey Cavaliers, which saw him average 18 points per game in the NBL1 South competition. Hickey will be a familiar face for many fans as he starred for the Australian Indigenous team with 28 points against the 2019/20 Hawks side featuring LaMelo Ball.
Joining Hickey is Illawarra’s own Harry Morris. The 6’6 stretch forward has been a leading contributor to the Hawks NBL1 program, where he averaged 17 points and six rebounds while shooting 39% from 3. Morris had a season-high 40-points against Albury Wodonga earlier this season.
Coach Jacob Jackomas is impressed with the progress of both players during the pre-season and is encouraged by what Hickey and Morris can bring to the program.
“Davo is a player we have watched with interest over the years. He is an exciting talent with a unique feel for the game, and we look forward to continuing to develop and refine his skillset.”
“Harry has had a great NBL1 season and has more than earned his position on the roster. The Illawarra region continues to nurture elite junior talent, and it is great to see local athletes like Harry and Lachie Dent get their opportunity to represent their home program.”
With the addition of Hickey and Morris and the recent arrivals of imports George King and Justin Robinson, the Hawks now have just one roster spot to fill before the NBL season tips off on October 1st.
Both players will be in action for the Hawks in Saturday night’s home pre-season clash against UC Riverside at the Snakepit. Limited ticketing remains for the match-up. Illawarra Hawks vs UC Riverside - Pre Season Game Tickets, Sat 03/09/2022 at 6:00 pm | Eventbrite
