The Hawks must regroup and reset after being on the wrong end of a walk-off three from Taipans wing Lat Mayern on Thursday night.
Gary Clark delivered one of the performances of the season for the home side, but it wasn't enough to overcome a desperate Cairns team who left the Entertainment Centre with a 93-92 win.
Clark was dominant with 36 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the floor and 10-of-14 at the foul line. At 80% efficiency, Clark had his way with any defender that Adam Forde threw his way and continues to show why he was one of the most sought-after imports in last season's free-agency period.
Tyler Harvey finished with 13 points to be Clark's most potent support act, while Sam Froling had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Wani Swaka Lo Buluk 11 points.
Todd Blanchfield had his best performance of the season from the bench with 10 points, while AJ Johnson had six rebounds to go with his eight points.
The Hawks will take an unchanged line-up into tonight's match against a 36ers side that has found life in recent weeks under interim coach Scott Ninnis.
The season series is tied at 1-1 after the Hawks got the best of the Sixers on New Year's Eve in the 'Gong.
Opposition Watch
The Sixers have turned around a slow start to their season to win 3 of their last four games, including a 35-point thrashing of South East Melbourne Phoenix on Wednesday night.
The one-two punch of DJ Vasiljevic, eighth in league scoring at 18.7 points per game, and Isaac Humphries at 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, have sparked the 36er's return to form.
Trey Kell is experiencing his strongest stretch of the season and will receive plenty of attention from the Hawks wings of Swaka Lo Buluk, Lee, Blanchfield and Hickey.
Kyrin Galloway has relished the extra playing time under Ninnis, punctuated by a 23-point and 7-rebound return against the Phoenix.
The Sixers will be without import forward Jacob Wiley and Next Star Trenton Flowers as both recover from injuries.
