The Illawarra Hawks’ third Blitz fixture of the NBL22 season against New Zealand has been cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Hawks, who won both their Blitz matches in Melbourne last week, were scheduled to face the Breakers at the WIN Entertainment Centre on Thursday, November 25 but the visitors have been forced to remain in Victoria as four members of their touring party returned positive COVID tests.
"The coaches and players are obviously disappointed to not continue their momentum built over the past two Blitz games in Melbourne," Hawks president and co-owner Dorry Kordahi said.
"We will now turn our attention to Saturday's blockbuster against the Kings and urge all Hawks fans to come out in force and support their team as we attempt to go 3-0 against our bitter rivals.”
The decision to cancel the game has been made in line with the NBL’s health and safety protocols - with all players and staff from both sides being double vaccinated.
The NBL will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities and further testing will be carried out on any individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts.
The Hawks and Breakers will receive three and a half points for the NBL Blitz standings.
Patrons who have purchased tickets to Thursday’s game will be contacted via Ticketmaster in regard to refunds.
