The Illawarra Hawks' round four fixture with the South East Melbourne Phoenix has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
Ahead of their NBL22 match, scheduled for Thursday, December 23 at the WIN Entertainment Centre, several individuals in the Hawks camp returned a positive COVID result.
As a result, the Hawks team, who are all double vaccinated, will undergo isolation as per the NSW Health protocols and have their symptoms monitored each day.
"The decision to postpone the Hawks and Phoenix game has been made in line with the NBL’s health and safety protocols," an NBL spokesperson said.
"The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is the League’s number one priority when considering these matters.
"The NBL will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities and further testing will be carried out on any individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts."
Hawks co-owner and president Dorry Kordahi admits while it's disheartening to have another game impacted by COVID, the safety of his team and the whole Illawarra community is of the utmost importance.
"The Hawks are obviously disappointed to see this fixture against the Phoenix postponed, especially after Friday's exciting home opener but everyone's safety has to come first," Kordahi said.
"We thank all our corporate partners, members and fans for their patience and support during the period and look forward to seeing you all again for our New Year's Eve blockbuster against the Kings.
"On behalf of the ownership group, I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas."
The Hawks previously had both their home NBL Blitz fixtures against the Breakers and Kings cancelled due to COVID protocols.
Patrons who have purchased tickets to Thursday’s game via Ticketmaster will be contacted directly regarding the event.
