The Illawarra Hawks' letter to their loyal corporate partners, members and fans.
Dear loyal Hawks corporate partners, members and fans,
The past month has been one of the most challenging times in our foundation club's proud 43-year history.
COVID-19 has affected all of us in the Illawarra and beyond; particularly medical professionals, government first responders, aged care centre workers and all of those that work in essential services or take care of friends and loved ones - our admiration and appreciation goes out to you all, as intermittent isolation has also been tough on everyone.
As a club, COVID-19 enforced isolation during the Christmas period to now having four straight home NBL games at the WIN Entertainment Centre postponed due to the league’s health and safety protocols, it’s been tough on Hawks staff, players and diehard fans.
We want to guarantee everyone within the Illawarra community and Hawks’ family that we are doing everything in our power to get your boys back on the court and playing games.
We ask all HawkHeads, from corporate partners, members and fans, to please rally around your team in its time of need, as we believe Brian Goorjian and his boys are building something special on the court.
Before this hiatus, your team had won three of its four matches this season, including a double-overtime thriller against New Zealand in the home opener.
A large part of this success has been the emergence of Duop Reath, Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Antonius Cleveland - as well as the continued strong play of stars Tyler Harvey, Sam Froling and Justinian Jessup.
All of the players are ready - whenever the NBL tells us where we can play, we will be there with maximum effort.
As coach Goorjian mentioned last year “we will bleed for you fans”.
In return, we kindly request from you, the Hawks faithful, to come out to support your Illawarra team when the games come home - made easier by syncing your digital calendars to ours.
With short notice and concern over the pandemic, it will seem like a challenge.
But, basketball is a sport where the size and ferocity of the home crowd can make a difference on the court.
If this is to be the special season we hope it can be, we need the HawkHeads to come out in force and participate.
Each and every one of us is hungry to build on this exceptional start, as we fly towards a second championship banner and know we can’t do it without our fans.
So now, more than ever, please stick with us and continue your incredible support.
The Illawarra Hawks.
