Terry Egger, who spent nearly three decades running some of the largest media organisations in the United States, was formally appointed Vice-Chairman of Crest Sports & Entertainment this week by Crest.
Terry is very familiar with The Hawks and the NBL having spent considerable time the past three and a half years in an advisory capacity for the team.
Egger, an avid sports enthusiast, spent most of his career running newspapers in major cities in the United States including most recently as the CEO and Publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer and its sister publications. Prior to that, he held similar roles at the Plain Dealer in Cleveland Ohio, and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Missouri, the original flagship newspaper of Joseph Pulitzer.
Terry serves on several for profit as well as nonprofit Boards, advises internationally on sustaining vibrant investigative journalism, and formally served as the CEO of the Host Committee for the 2016 Presidential Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
CEO of Crest Sports and Entertainment, Stu Taggart offered: “I’m looking forward to working with Terry in this official capacity. This is another important step in the right direction for the Club as we embrace the growth opportunities in front of us and Terry will bring a wealth of experience and connections in world media to publicise the Illawarra Region, The Hawks and other Crest sports brands.”
Egger said, “I am extremely excited to play even a small part in the future of the Hawks success and the expansion of Crest’s exciting portfolio.”
“In the past three plus years I’ve fallen in love with the people of Wollongong and the Illawarra region. This community deserves the very best and I have seen how committed ownership, the players, coaches, senior executives, staff and volunteers are to making this wonderful fan base proud of their home team.”
“As we look to improve our facilities and the fan game day experience, we hope to be guided by key community input and support.”
“The basketball scene in Australia is expanding rapidly, and with the right governance structure in place, the future can be very bright for The Illawarra Hawks and the rest of the fine clubs that contribute to basketball excellence in Australia.”
