The Hawks have secured another key signature ahead of the 2020/21 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season with former Chicago Bulls and Boomers big man Cameron Bairstow signing with the new look team.

The 29-year-old was selected with the 49th pick in the 2014 NBA draft by Chicago after a standout four-year college career at New Mexico. Bairstow played 36 games for the Bulls from 2014-16.

He also represented Australia at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics before returning to play for the Brisbane Bullets for three seasons. He has most recently played with Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania.

Hawks Head Coach Brian Goorjian said: “Cam brings big game experience to The Hawks and will provide a strong leadership presence for our young roster.

“His on court attributes are well known and he is a major addition to our front court. Cameron is also a class act off the court and will help establish the winning culture we want at The Hawks.

“With eight players now signed for the upcoming campaign, we believe we have built a team that will compete strongly this season.”

Bairstow joins Emmett Naar, Deng Deng, Dan Grida, Deng Adel, Sam Froling, Isaac White and Tyler Harvey on The Hawks’ roster for the upcoming season.

Bairstow said: "The Hawks have a new ownership, new direction, new coach, so it is an exciting thing to be back for the start of something new.

"He (Goorjian) has got a winning track record and a great reputation as a coach and a person off the court, so for me it was very exciting when he did first contact me about the opportunity to come play for him and it is something I'm definitely looking forward to."
