Every child has the right to grow up happy and healthy and a healthy lifestyle requires the adoption of positive and healthy habits. That’s why the Hawks and Peoplecare have teamed up to create the Healthy Habits Program which aims to reach out to as many primary school students as possible.

Our key focus points are what we call the four pillars of health and they touch on some of the most important aspects of a healthy lifestyle:

What we consume daily is of major importance. We essentially “are what we eat”. The food and drink we consume becomes the building blocks for our body to use. Poor building blocks lead to poor health.

The importance of sleep cannot be understated. Getting the appropriate quantity of sleep, but also great quality of sleep is vital for development, recovery, mental focus and so much more!

Our bodies were designed to move, not to sit down all day. Exercise has so many benefits such as improving memory and focus, protecting against chronic disease, help improve sleep quality, help improve mental health, the list goes on. Getting some form of exercise everyday will have great and long-lasting benefits.

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. We not only need to stay physically active but mentally active as well. Learning at school or work, reading and writing, socialising, learning to think critically and efficiently are some great ways to stay mentally active.

Our goal is that at the end of each discussion, the students have a better understanding of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. We want to encourage positive, healthy changes that make them a better person physically, mentally and socially.

- 25-30-minute discussion in the classroom
- 30-35-minutes of basketball drills and games

NOTE: The Healthy Habits Program is aimed at students in year 3-6.
